Ignite, AE Live’s in-house creative design agency, has been announced as the Winner and Runner Up in the “sports – graphic package” category at the recent Motion Awards.
The Motion Awards by Motionographer is the only awards show that celebrates the entire landscape of Motion Design, and is widely considered the highest recognition in the industry. It not only celebrates the trailblazers of the industry and the achievements that help propel the industry forward, but exists to help elevate Motion Design in all its forms, and is united by a shared passion for creative expression.
The Ignite team was appointed by United Rugby Championships in 2022, when it was launched. A new challenger brand, with 16 teams across 5 nations in 2 hemispheres, the URC wanted a bold brand revolution and motion design for the ”next generation” of rugby competitions.
With two directives being to contemporise the offering and evoke the fast pace of the game, Ignite designed dynamic motion graphics, inspired by the fast paced, hard-hitting sport, with the new United Rugby Championship logo being at the heart of it all.
Placed as a point of origin and active ‘navigator’ for the entire motion graphics system, the signature ticker was given attributes to draw the eye, to split and grow information across the screen real estate, thus giving flex to this unique visual system. The logo was placed front and centre in a ticker that worked across all media platforms.
Expressive player photography was aligned with a considered new hierarchy of fonts, and a ‘street’ design aesthetic, and the colour palette created a package that put team colours at the heart of the action. Graphics were designed to deliver high speed stats and live data feeds in real time, raising the bar for match graphics internationally.
Adam Redmond, Head of Broadcast & Communications at United Rugby Championships, said: “After we established the new brand for United Rugby Championship in 2021, we pushed the AE Live Group to create a bold match graphics pack that would place the vibrancy of our league and the colours of our teams at the heart of its design. They exceeded our expectations with this brief, and delivered a contemporary suite of graphics which stands out in rugby without overpowering viewers. We are thrilled with the impact of our signature clock and ticker, which lives in the lower centre of the screen; not only does it provide a balanced composition to our graphic animations, it also keeps the URC brand alive when we publish clips of incredible moments to our social media channels.”
Ignite was also rewarded for its work with the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), by being announced as the runner up in the same category.
Ignite has become a recognised award-winning creative design agency within the global sports community, with offices in NZ, UK and US. Ignite had an impressive 2023, having been awarded Gold at The Promax Global Excellence awards for their work with World Rugby, in providing the front end, open and titles for the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2021, and gold at the ANZ Promax Awards, for providing the title sequence and entire match graphics package for Rugby World Cup Sevens 2022.
With a strong history in rugby, Ignite delivered the entire graphic design package and title sequence for the Rugby World Cup France 2023, with critical acclaim from the industry.
Ignite was purchased by AE Live, a world-leading global provider of data and broadcast solutions, in 2020. Along with World Rugby, AE Live’s impressive portfolio also includes (amongst many others) Premier League Productions, BBC, ITV, Sky Sports, WTA Tennis and Fox Sports.
In July 2023, AE Live announced the acquisition of Silver Spoon, the industry experts in innovative, real time virtual production content on Unreal Engine, joining Ignite in the AE Live Group.
