7 Days at AE Graphics

Sitting in our weekly capture all meeting at AE head office on a Monday morning is always an eye-opener as we appraise just how many live sports broadcasts we are involved with on a weekly basis. This Monday it struck us that, even by our own standards, the next seven days is going to be exceptionally busy!

From a UK and Europe perspective, our specialist darts and snooker teams are on the road covering the World Grand Prix event in Dublin and the European Masters in Bucharest. Football-wise, it’s a break from the Premier League, of course, as World Cup Qualifiers take over and we’ll be at Wembley on Saturday with ITV Sport for Gareth Southgate’s first game in charge against Malta. Throughout the weekend we’ll also cover every single Aviva Premiership rugby match for both BT Sport and PERFORM, in addition to three Guinness Pro12 matches for Sky Sports, BBC Wales Sport and S4C, plus an RFU Championship match on Sunday for good measure.

If 10 live outside broadcasts isn’t enough, we’re also onsite at Twickenham for Saturday’s Rugby Championship match between Argentina & Australia, delivering graphics for Sky Sports’ host broadcast coverage, not to mention to downstream graphics services in Buenos Aires, Melbourne and Johannesburg for our clients, ESPN Latin America, Network Ten and SuperSport, respectively. Additionally, in partnership with Amayse and Broadcast Virtual, we’re helping deliver a virtual advertising solution for this match as an alternative to painting sponsor branding onto the hallowed turf at HQ, which is surely a great deal more palatable to the groundsman! Further afield, it’s a hugely significant week for our Australia office as we embark on a new cricket contract with Channel Nine. We began with the domestic Matador Cup competition in Perth overnight and are building up to the international season which starts in early November with a test series against South Africa. We’re excited to be launching a new graphics look which our creative team has built in partnership with Nine’s designers, a touchscreen application and some augmented reality content using Spidercam. This week also sees the latest renewal of the A-League competition, which includes at least four and often five OBs for Fox Sports each weekend, beginning on Friday evening as Brisbane Roar hosting Melbourne Victory.

Things are no less busy in Asia as England’s cricket tour of Bangladesh and India starts with an ODI in Dhaka on Friday, we’ll be onsite working for the host broadcasters, TSM. Meanwhile, in India, not only are we entering the second week of the Indian Super League football competition for Star Sports but another of their prized initiatives, kabaddi, is holding its World Cup in Ahmedabad, beginning on Friday. Having been heavily involved with Star’s ground breaking coverage of the Pro Kabaddi League since its inception in 2014, we are delighted to be providing graphics for the World Cup, including some exciting new AR content using Stypegrip and Jitacam. And of course, cricket is never far from the agenda in India, we launched a brand new graphics look for the BCCI’s coverage of their home series with New Zealand, the third and final test of that series begins on Saturday and our team will be there for every ball of that series and the subsequent visit of England before Christmas.

Finally, in South Africa, our rugby specialists are preparing for the annual visit of the All Blacks, a massive event in the sporting calendar for all Springboks fans. AE’s team will be part of the SuperSport crew at Kings Park in Durban whilst we’ll also be providing a touchscreen and AR solution for the main studio presentation from Johannesburg.

And then? We’ll pause for a moment, catch our breath and then get ready for next week!
